Feel bad throwing out those nice jars when your candle is expired? Me too. I also have a limited budget when it comes to buying storage containers for my house. So with those two things in consideration, I decided to take down two birds with one stone. I like to repurpose the jar for storage in the bathroom for my Q-tips and cotton balls. This is the best way that I have found.
1 – Place the expired candle in the freezer for an hour or two.
2 – After removing from the freezer, use a sharp knife and scrap around the edges
of the wax to loosen it from the jar. Then make several X-shaped cuts throughout
the remaining wax.
3 – Tip the jar upside down and the wax should just slide out. If that is not the case, just make more cuts and deeper if you are able to.
4 – The metal piece at the bottom that the wick was attached to, or the wick tab, is glued to the bottom of the jar. Usually the first freezing is enough to take a metal spoon and scrape it from the glass. If not, just stick it back in the freezer for 30 minutes and it should come off just fine.
5 – Clean up the rest of the wax residue with dish soap and bleach to be sure that the jar is disinfected. Allow jar to dry thoroughly.
6 – Repurpose the jar as a storage container to keep anything of your choice! ENJOY!
